Technique and Results of a
Time-Travelling Experiment
by Christina Perincioli
Deep relaxation -- sometimes also called trance or hypnosis -- is normally used by therapists to place a patient into a state of mind in which he/she is able to recall events that happened very long ago or that he/she has repressed. Using this method some therapists do not only send their patients back to earliest childhood but even further back into "past lives" in search of conflicts responsible for actual psychological problems. At Stanford Research Institute Russel Targ and Harold Puthoff used this method in their experiments on "remote viewing". I used it to try to travel not in the past but in the future.
This special state of mind was induced by helping the test person to relax his/her body with a type of wording known from autogenous training. The next step was to help him/her to relax the mind, to let go all thoughts and to attain a state of tranquillity and concentration. Physically this means a change in the brainwave pattern; the electrical pulses grow slower, more regular and stronger. The test person then experienced a quiet, unfocussed awareness, a feeling like shortly before falling asleep. Then I started the "journey" by asking him or her, whether he/she could see pictures of future events, important events that concern us all. I asked how the sky and how the earth looked, whether plants, animals and human beings could be seen, and what she/he should learn to be prepared for this future.
When I began these experiments my motivation was our fear of an imminent ecological catastrophe and a nuclear war in Europe. When some friends and I tried it the first time, we were astonished by the abundance of pictures we saw and their clearness down to the last detail. But we could not understand what we saw; obviously it was not the kind of future we had imagined and feared.
I would not have continued with the experiments, if there had not been this irritating similarity between the scenes reported by different test persons. To find out more about it I repeated the test in exactly the same manner (all instructions on tape) with different groups in different cities. After every test the person gave a report, which was taped, of what they had seen when asked the different questions concerning the future. This way 85 reports were collected, compared and evaluated. The similarities were apparent; it was as if different people from different locations described the same event. But neither I nor the test persons understood at that time the nature of that event.
I knew that if I continued I would get more and more descriptions of these same scenes and still not find a way to understand them. So I stopped and filed the reports under "interesting but inconceivable" and started to dig into geology and astrophysics.
In the last years geologists have begun to examine the sediments of times of worldwide mass extinctions, when a big part of the existing fauna and flora suddenly disappeared and was replaced by new genera. Based on chemical analysis of the sediments, they have tried to draft a scenario of what happened; they assume that these disasters have been triggered off by encounters with asteroids or comets.
Their research and my improved knowledge of the geological situation of Germany enabled me to now understand what my test persons had seen and to arrange the various scenes into a logical scenario.
I had resumed the "time-travelling-experiments", but this time not with groups but with individuals. This way test persons could tell me immediately what they were seeing, and I could ask them questions about details while they were still on their "trip". These conversations during the experiment were taped and are the backbone of a comprehensive report.
The test persons described a radical geological change set off by a comet passing the earth very closely (as close as, or closer than the moon). Thereby the axis of rotation of the earth shifts and comes into a position, which it already held in geological times. Through this seasons change and also the drift of the oceans. The abrupt change in motion produces great tension in the earth's crust, many volcanoes erupt and flat coasts are submerged by water. Dust from the comet and the volcanoes hides the sun for a long time. Plants rot and many animals find no food and seem to die out. Only very few people are found after that and they have changed considerably: men and women show the same physical strength and behaviour; the test persons often had difficulties in distinguishing between them. They all agreed that people do not live in pairs any more but in gender groups. Social structures like clans, chiefs or even blood relations were not found.
Everybody seems to live on his-her own and meet other people with much reservation and respect. They speak and write in a language the test person could not understand, but most of the time they communicate without words. They were described as very quiet, peaceful and concentrated. This change of mind was not a result of personal efforts but seems to have happened when the comet passed by.
Summing up the scenario so briefly makes it look as if I had made it up out of some bits and pieces of the current discussion in geology. In reality I divided each report into its different aspects, compiled and compared them. Then I searched in scientific reports for comparable events which would then help to understand the scene described in the tests. As an example: measurements of the geomagnetic field in the different layers at archaeological sites have shown that the leaps in evolution and in human culture always happen at a time when the geomagnetic field suddenly changes direction and strength. Findings like these show that what the test persons described, was not the product of their fantasy but a realistic mechanism in evolution. This and all other scientific findings were of course not known to me nor to the test persons at the time of the experiments.
Every aspect of the scenario, when compared with scientific findings and observations, proved to be realistic. Nevertheless, I personally do not believe that this is therefore a true description of the future to come. I do not know all the possible mechanisms that could have influenced these experiments and therefore could not exclude them. Therefore this work is not another "prophecy" but simply a report about an experiment and the efforts to understand its outcome.
The research on the possibilities to "travel in space and time" with our mind and all the other abilities we have in this state of deep relaxation, is still at the beginning. We are feeling around in the dark in this area which is beyond our normal perception. Each experiment in that direction had only a very limited value, but all these exercises and reports together might enable us to finally draw a map on this unknown territory.
